The apartment is within easy walking distance of all the main sites and also conveniently placed for everyday needs like supermarkets, bakeries and butchers etc. The Rialto Market is well worth a visit to buy all your fresh vegetables and fish.
In the vicinity of Campo Santo Stefano(St Stephen's Square) there are several outdoor cafés, a newspaper kiosk, a bakery, a deli, two good restaurants and an ice cream shop called 'Paolin' which is one of the oldest in the city. In Calle delle Botteghe (opposite the newspaper kiosk) you find a bakery/deli, few shops and two good restaurants with a counter where you can have a drink and “cicheti” ( Venetian style tapas).
All public transport (water taxis and buses and gondolas) are also very close by making it easy to take trips to some of the other islands. For a longer trip it is well worth visiting the famous 'glass' island of Murano or the pretty island of Burano. For shorter trips there is the charming island of Giudecca where you can escape the crowds and get a perfect view of the lagoon. If the weather is hot and you have children with you a visit to the lido for a day of lying on the beach and swimming is well worth while.
